You will also quickly learn that all the cloud providers have their own way of doing this. all have classes (and certifications) you can take. What I'm trying to say: Improve your scripting skills should be your focus now. It's not the only software package that does that but for someone who may not know how to do advanced script stuff in bash, ansible allows you to do a lot of stuff without writing code - just yaml files saying "I need this". You can delegate so the OS expert can do the OS things, the Java expert can do the Java things, nginx expert can do those - and you can easily put it all together using AWX and just say "install OS release X with apache" and it uses the playbooks provided by others. It means understanding how those files WORK, where configuration options must be placed and what software is required to be installed to support the feature. Everything you'll have to deal with is templates around these files. The language is almost secondary albeit you'll learn that using the scripting language others use in your organization is typically the way it goes. Good system admins need to be able to create and maintain scripts - lots of them. Once you've created a blueprint, you "create image" and choose the format, which you can then use as a VM template, ISO etc. But it does allow you to configure a machine template like you would on virtual machines. NOTE - most systems need post-script configuration settings, like setting up fixed IPs, web servers, file servers etc. You use it by creating a blueprint, which basically states what should be included, commit that to an image that you can then use to install new systems from. If you install "cockpit-composer" you'll get that included with cockpit which is a web-based system administration for RHEL (and Fedora etc). ![]() With RHEL you get something called "image builder". ![]() You have a few "easy buttons" but none of them will help you maintain anything once they're built, at least not without some scripting. Now you have a billion options, Ansible is just the one that Red Hat supports but there are bunch of others. Until your scripting abilities go beyond "very basic knowledge" you won't have a lot of options.
